A one-armed war hero is drafted to solve a mysterious jailbreak and prevent a kill list from being successfully executed. Sounds like too much for one man. David Wellington adds a helping hand to aid Jim Chapel in this Herculean task, a voice that enters his cell phone and all his other electronic devices. He calls this voice Angel and she is able to provide him with valuable information and makes things happen for him that save his life and aid in his search for the violent killers escaped from Camp Putnam.
This sci-fi thriller, the killers are a touch above the average human, is presented by way of a time line that ticks down page by page until the unsolvable is revealed. Be sure you have your own tine line open for several hours of suspense. You can’t put this one down.
There must be a romantic side to any good story and Wellington provides a good one. Julia, a veterinarian by trade, is a superb one. She is smart, resilient, sexy, and just a bit unsure of the one arm man’s story. With nowhere else to turn, she reluctantly joins Chapel on his quest. She proves to be a valuable asset with clues from her past that add a few road signs on the twisted path they follow. She also adds a little love. There is more than one character to grab onto in this tale
Captain John Chapel quickly becomes an underdog you can root for. He battles government ineptitude and secrecy as well as sub-human psychopaths on his way to an ending that unravels only as quickly as you can turn the pages. This thriller rates a two thumbs up from this reader. Great read David Wellington; I am waiting for more.
