Ian Woodhead has quickly become one of my most reviewed authors. I have reviewed most (if not all) of his Zombie Armageddon series as well as a few stand alone novels. After much pestering by yours truely ;p he has finally given us here at Horror-Web an interview.
Born in the 60′s, he managed to survive the decades that followed with minimum trauma. He lives in the north of England, the County of West Yorkshire, and is married with four children, four stepchildren and numerous pets.
He has been a writer for over two decades but has only recently decided to make a name for himself, with several novels and multiple short stories available. Ian writes mainly in the horror genre, but sometimes likes to add a helping of Science fiction and romance.
1. Tell me a little about yourself.
I live in the north of England, and I’ve lived hare since 1969. Before that, well, I wasn’t born. I’m married with children and I do enjoy a nice cup of tea.
2. How long have you been writing?
Hmm, I started writing stories about twenty years ago, but they weren’t very good. I only started to take it seriously five years ago.
3. Who or what inspired you to be a writer?
I guess, I wanted to reach inside me and pull out a story, complete with realistic characters, a few great locations and generally put them through hell.
4. What do you find most challenging and enjoyable as an author?
Challenging is staying focused, and trying to ensure that I write everyday. The enjoyable is when I do hit that zone. That moment when the story flows, as if from nowhere.
5. What books do you enjoy in your free time?
I don’t really have a lot of free time.
6. Who is your favorite author and why?
I have too many to name. No, seriously, I do.
7. Do you have any advice for aspiring writers?
That’s an easy one. Keep writing. Keep putting one word in front of the other.
8. Can you tell us about any of your new work?
I have JUST started a new story. It’s going to be my second ever tale told in first person perspective and I intend to tell the story of how one man manages to survive during an alien invasion.
9. What question do you wish someone would ask and what is the answer?
What do you see when you’re re-reading your stories? I see my characters playing in places where I’ve previously been.
