Cold Prey 2 picks up directly where the first movie left off. I love stories like this. We all have had those moments when a movie ends and we are crying out at the screen "But. . . But. . . " because we know there is more story left untold. As soon as I realized this movie was a direct sequel, I had to track down part one so I could watch them back to back.
If you haven't seen part one, go watch it and then come back. A quick recap though. Five friends go snowboarding and an accident causes them to seek shelter in what turns out to be the lair of a madman who kills all but one of them. The survivor, Jannicke, thinks she has killed the bad guy. Roll credits.
This one begins in earnest when Ole finds Jannicke after her ordeal. Taking her back to the hospital where his girlfriend Camilla works (which appears to be on the cusp of being closed down permanently), they begin to get the whole story. Police are dispatched to the area where they find the bodies and bring them all back to the hospital.
After getting the bodies back, there are differing opinions about the mental state of Jannicke and Camilla is ordered to sedate her (but doesn't.) The main doctor at the hospital detects a spark of life in the body of the killer and manages to revive him completely. I can understand the motives of the doctor here. The primary concern of doctors should always be to preserve life. It isn't his fault that the result of that is a homicidal maniac being set loose.
And then chaos ensues.
Which is to be expected. And anticipated. And enjoyed. Well, enjoyed by the viewers, not so much the participants. I don't want to get into all the details of the movie because you should watch it. It is really worth seeing.
Every aspect of this film is well done. I know there is a third movie as well, a prequel. But I have yet to track down a copy of it. Shout! is the DVD company that made part 2 available, hopefully they release the other two as well. And yes, this is also subtitled. For those of you who still struggle with the idea of watching a movie you have to read I have two suggestions. Either learn all languages horror films are being made in (unless you have a Babel fish in your ear) OR suck it up and read the subtitles. If you limit yourself only to horror movies in English, you are doing yourself a tremendous disservice.
This gets 4.5 stars, same as the original.
