Congratulations to the writers of the terrific stories by the winners of last month's contest on the horror of technology:
"Health Care 2016" by Jan Kozlowski
“All muscle, baby” by Brandon Belched
"Outgrown" by Chris Marrs
"A World at Play" by Dan Reed
Hats off to the writers of these stories and our honorable mentions:
"Swipe: A Bloody Carousel or It's On!" by Eric S. Grizzle
"Like Lemmings" by Janet Joyce Holden
"Heathcliff" by Sherry Perkins
They've crafted some darkly humorous, intriguing, and thought-provoking tales, all of which are available neconebooks.com/flash.htm
They'll stick with you long after you've powered down your computer...unless you've powered down your computer because it has turned hostile, in which case we recommend you flee the vicinity of the offending machine immediately and send YOUR flash fiction entry for this month's contest via another computer.
To past and future contestants: FLASH US, PLEASE! We want to see how you handle our latest contest:
Your story can be about anything you want, so long as it's 100 WORDS or less; however, only 97 of those words are completely up to you. This month, we asked each of our four judges to provide a noun, a verb, and an adjective (and the more eccentric, the better). Each submission this month MUST use at least one word off each list (one noun, one verb, and one adjective listed below). Whomever best weaves these seemingly bizarre, non-horror related words into their story will be published on our site next month!
REQUIRED WORDS:
NOUNS: Bourbon; Jalepeño; Manatee; Skyscraper
VERBS: Belch; Saturate; Write; Yodel
ADJECTIVES: Buxom; Fingerlicking; Floral; Pastel
Necon E-Books reserves the right to republish all WINNING and HONORABLE MENTION pieces (i.e. all those published on our web site) in our end-of-year anthology of Flash Fiction. Otherwise, all rights revert to the authors as soon as the winners are announced each month.
Submission deadline is April 30th, 2011.
Please submit work either directly in an email or attached as a text, RTF or MS Word document.
