Little pig, little pig, let me in…
Holy Belisle in a basket! This episode was pretty volatile because it was all over the place!
Negan has such a flair for the dramatics. He comes strutting in like the big bad wolf. Now it is time for Rick to introduce Negan to the community. I really don’t think they understood what this new relationship actually means. The conversation that should have been had obviously was not.
Sadly, the community gets their first glimpse of Darryl. He looks completely broken. It is apparent that it kills Rick to see him that way. He tries to talk to him but immediately gets schooled by Negan that Darryl is completely off limits unless it is for mutilation purposes.
Last week’s episode gave me a different perspective on Dwight. I actually felt as if there was something there I liked. I do like the way he seems to want to help Darryl. The way he treated Rosita and Spencer did not sit well with me. He was a bully. I might need to rewatch how Rosita interacted with him in previous episodes to understand his taunting. I would think his main source of contention would be Eugene after he chomped on Dwight’s groin! He tells Rosita to get Darryl’s chopper. To get the full effect of how much of an ass he is, he dumps out her canteen, takes her hat and gun. He is a real douche.
Negan is asking about Maggie when Father Gabriel happens upon him. Negan immediately insults the priest. Father Gabriel brings Negan to the Alexandria Cemetery and leads him to believe that Maggie has passed. Negan is upset because he was going to ask her to join his harem. Apparently, in his experience, even though he has murdered husbands in the past, the widows are still ripe for the picking.
We then hear a gun shot. Carl does not like Negan’s crew taking more than half of their medicine. Rick tries to defuse the situation by getting Carl to put down the gun but Negan blows him off. He advises Carl that half is what he says half is. Carl realizes that he can’t win this battle and surrenders his gun. Negan demands all the guns because he is not taking any chances.
This causes a problem because there are two guns missing from the inventory. Negan is immediately ready to bash a skull and unfortunately he holds Olivia, the keeper of the inventory, liable. Rick holds a community meeting and has to hold Lucille while he is trying to get whoever took the guns to return them. This is not the same person that preached in this same venue that they could destroy Negan or anyone that came their way. Rick is broken. It doesn’t help that Negan is emasculating him at every turn. Eugene points out that not everyone is present at this meeting, meaning Rosita and Spencer.
Meanwhile, Rosita and Spencer are out getting Darryl’s bike. Rosita is also on a mission to get a gun from one of Dwight’s crew that they had previously killed. Spencer starts pointing the finger at Rick and stating he brought this on Alexandria.
Enid has been let out of the closet! (I will never get tired of that!) It looks like Negan’s resident child rapist has taken an interest in our sullen sweetheart. She has some green balloons that she wants to keep but Mr. Pedo Phile is dangling them in her face. He tells her to say please and it is really creepy. I sense there is going to be more between these two and none of it good.
Rick is tearing apart Spencer’s house because he remembers that in the past he has hoarded weapons. Father Gabriel tries to offer Rick some support. He has faith in Rick and there was a time that he would never have called Rick his friend. I think this is a really big moment. Not as big as Rick allowing him to take Judith to safety since Father Gabriel is the one that previously started all the havoc in. Father Gabriel erred and is trying to mend his relationship and I actually admire him for it.
Rick ends up finding the guns in Spencer’s house along with alcohol and food. He promptly returns the guns to Negan. Negan then makes it clear that whoever took those guns needs to be held accountable or their relationship will go back to the very beginning when Lucille was introduced.
Rick sees Michonne and knows she has a rifle. He asks Negan if he can have a moment and King Cock says no. Haha. We have King Ezekiel and Negan is going to be King Cock because he surely is the “Cock of the Walk.” Rick then says please to Negan which gains him permission to speak with his lady. Michonne is blown away that Rick wants her to return a rifle that isn’t even on the inventory list. He tells her that he does not want her caught with it. She gives it to him. Rick gives the rifle to Negan and builds a dysfunctional rapport with him. Rick is bold and asks for Darryl’s freedom. He even says please. When Negan tells Darryl to plead his case he is met with silence.
Rosita returns Darryl’s bike to Dwight and gets her hat in return. Dwight tells Darryl he can have his bike back all he has to do is say the word. Again, silence. Dwight rides off with it. It is moments like this where I am confused about Dwight. Do I like him or hate him?
Negan wants Rick to provide more. He asks Rick to say the “magic words” so that he will leave. Rick does it. Negan can’t let Rick suffer his castration in silence, he ends the visit with his poetic prose, “I just slipped my dick down your throat and you thanked me for it.” Finally, he leaves.
Rick confronts Spencer about keeping the guns and stresses how Olivia’s life was in danger. As he walks away, Spencer makes a dig about how they should have made a deal with this group before it got completely out of hand. He mentioned Glen and Abraham. Our Rick that we know and love tells him that if he ever speaks those words to him again, he will break his jaw and makes sure Spencer confirms understanding. This is how you know Rick is not completely broken. He will still keep this community under control.
Michonne comes in as Rick is making their bed on the floor since Negan so generously took their mattresses. She tries to convince Rick to fight. He tells her about Shane and how he knows Judith is not his child. He explains that he has accepted that in order to protect her and help her survive. He pleads with Michonne that she needs to accept their situation, along with everyone else, or their current slice of life will not work. He is looking at having some sort of life rather than no life. He wants everyone to survive and not have anyone die because of his decisions or choices. She says she will try.
The show closes with Rosita going to Eugene and asking him to make her bullets. That was a long forgotten conversation between Abraham and Eugene about the ability to make bullets. If he can manufacture these and they can somehow get some guns, there might be some hope to defeating Negan’s army. At this point, I want Effie to say, “May the odds be forever in your favor.”
