Greetings fellow horror fans, my name is Samuel Spulman and I just published my first novel. It's titled "The Shadow of Simon Magus" by Samuel Spulman. You can order it on amazon.com
What's it about? You ask excitedly! Lol. Actually it is a fictionalized account of a true story. In the same vein of "The Amityville Horror", "The Entity" or "An American Haunting".
Mark Twain once said, "That of course truth is stranger than fiction. Fiction must stick to the possibilities." I completely agree. You simply can't top real life.
Here's a synopsis for you;
"In 1995 Paul Michelson visits psychiatrist Dr. Morris Bornstein for help. At age 13 Paul while playing with a ouija board seemed to make contact with an entity which claimed to be none other than the Biblical sorcerer Simon Magus.
Thinking it all coming somehow from his own subconscious mind Paul talks daily with his imaginary friend. When strange things start happening at home like the sounds of someone walking in the hallway at night when no one is there and breathing sounds in his room he begins to suspect he has actually made contact with something.
He asks Simon about it on the ouija board and Simon tells him because they are communicating in this way they have cracked open the door to the astral world and other undesirable entities are coming through. Simon suggests to Paul that he can show him how to perform a spell of invocation that will allow them to share the same body.
Paul being a young amateur magician eagarly agrees to it. He believes he really has made contact with one of the most famous magicians of all time and that if they share the same body he will learn all of Simon's magicical knowledge. He performs the spell but to his horror it has unexpected results.
Simon now possessed Paul's body and can take it over at will. From 1968-1995 Paul lives with his horrible secret. That he has another personality which takes over his body at least monthly or sometimes more. He has no control over Simon's actions and has hours of missing time in which he has no knowledge of what Simon has done in his body?
As he grows up he begins to doubt the possession idea and suspects that he has simply suffering from some sort of mental illness. This is what he hopes Dr. Bornstein can help him with.
Is he mentally ill or truly possessed? Both possibilities are laid before the reader to decide for themselves.
In exploring the truth of his case the reader learns of the home that Paul's family movied away from when he was only four years old. Paul grew up hearing the tales of the supernatural happenings that occurred in that old place.
Could it be that the real source of his problem is a spirit that followed them from their old haunted home? A house so haunted it makes the Amityville house seem like a bed and breakfast.
This is my first novel and I am making my rounds to every horror fiction forum to spread the word. I know that if you are here it is right up ypur alley. I hope you will buy a copy. Thanks, Samuel Spulman
