Believers is the first story arc of what is being called Season 10 of the X-Files. I am a huge X-Files fan and was very excited when I heard about the comic series. My understanding of it is that Chris Carter is plotting the stories and then Joe Harris is doing the actual writing of the comic scripts. Believers is a 5 part story that really needs to set the stage for what is to come. Mulder and Scully have been away from the FBI for 12 years now. So it is picking up with a real time passage of time. They are together and there was a child but it was put up for adoption. This story is a bit confusing. There are “Acolytes” who are hunting down Skinner and Mulder and Scully and Reyes and Doggett. And the only reason seems to be about the adopted child. To add to the confusion, in the second issue they resurrect the Lone Gunmen under the premise that they faked their deaths. I need to go back and watch the episode they died. It seems to me they got stuck on the wrong side of a sealed door with some biological toxin that was deadly. That doesn’t seem like someone faking their death to me. Taking all that into consideration, I give this a mediocre straight down the middle 2.5 stars. The story didn’t grab me and make me jump for joy. But having an official X-Files Season 10 absolutely does. And while this first story arc didn’t pan out, I am confident that the series as a whole will. The next story arc is a 2 issue one dealing with the Flukeman. I have high hopes there.
